I think some people need to be more careful with TERFs because a lot of the fights I see with TERFs on here just give them more fuel for them to spout their ideology and are just a means for people to masturbate over how much of a good ally they are.
-Threats of violence: This is the internet. You’re not scaring anybody. We’ve all had death threats over the internet at this point. Most people have grown numb to it. You’re just contributing to their “transactivists are violent” agenda.
-Saying literally anything sexual towards them: contributes to their “transactivists are rapists” agenda.
-Calling them a “disgusting vagina fetishist” which is an exact wording I see a lot, contributes to their “TERF is code for lesbian” agenda.
-Asking every person who posts anything feminist related if they’re a TERF… like if they’re a TERF they’re either gonna be open about it on their blog, or they’re gonna be hiding it in which they wouldn’t answer that with a serious answer anyway, which contributes to their “transactivists actually hate radical feminism” agenda.
-Asking every lesbian and every person who says they hate men if they’re a TERF, even if they’re trans, which contributes to their “trans women are men” agenda and their “TERF is code for lesbian” agenda.
-Calling every transmisogynist a TERF, and especially calling every transphobe a TERF…. just weakens the weight of the term.
So yeah stop that. You’re not helping. You’re just giving them more fuel for their echo-chamber.
I’d like to add to this that I’ve seen a decent number of men (and other non-women) on here going in pretty hard with the threats of physical violence, and like, that makes me super uncomfortable. Just because a woman holds a really fucking terrible ideology doesn’t mean they should become the politically acceptable punching bag for your desire to hurt women.
