– racist caricature of a black man. he’s cis and gay and his name is brick. the devs forgot to give him a personality, or any backstory.
– skinny, androgynous dfab nonbinary person named like leaf or smth. they’re white and pan.
– bi cis latinx woman who’s dressed extremely provocatively for no reason. her name is maria bc the devs think that’s representation or w/e
– transmisogynistic caricature of a white trans woman who has broader shoulders than any other character. she’s bi, but there’s no option to flirt with her if you play the game as a woman (what’s a lesbian ?). her name is gwendolyn.
– cis gay white man named kevin. he has a beard and he’s acceptably chubby, so everyone loves him. he’s the only remotely fat character, and so all he talks about is food.
I called 11B Productions and left a long message about how they should be ashamed for going directly against Leslie Feinberg’s wishes.
Not only are they making it into a derivative work, against Leslie Feinberg’s instructions, they’re specifically calling for a white person to play Jess and said they are open to a trans man actor. Leslie wanted the character’s races, abilities, etc. to be open to the reader’s interpretation. Solidifying one visual version of SBB as canonical, or even just as a well-known interpretation, is not what ze wanted.
Please call, email, or write to them. Even if it’s just something short like “do not turn SBB into a movie, it disrespects Leslie Feinberg’s explicit wishes.”

It doesn’t matter if the producers are trans themselves, or if they promise to “do a good job.” They should be ashamed and this project needs to flop and/or not happen in the first place. I hope somehow they can be sued for this.
If they want to claim it’s just “loosely based on SBB” then don’t steal the same title. Don’t steal the characters’ names. They can make their own transgender-related movie but it cannot be SBB.
